“The message - It’s 3am, you touched my heart”
In 2005, Teresa had been a widow for two years and her dear friend and ex-partner, Barbara Rudolph, felt that her friend had been alone and mourning for long enough and thought that she would start the process of finding love for her friend.
While in Florida visiting her ill mother, Teresa received a call from Barbara who asked her to please go to a computer for there was something she wanted to share. Following Barbara instructions, Teresa found herself on match.com reading about a gentleman. Rusty Silverman. Barbara said that she was interested in what Teresa thought of this person.
He certainly seemed very eligible, but why would Barbara be checking the profile of someone living in South Jersey when she is now living in NYC. At that point, Barbara declared that it was really for Teresa. Initially, Teresa objected to contacting Rusty, but after several months, a contact was made and a date arranged.
After that first date, the next morning Teresa received An email from Rusty. The message “It’s 3am you touched my heart”
And that was the beginning of a love affair.
Rusty, a physician and passionate photographer, declares that he seems to recall having photographed Teresa on a beach walk years prior. Of course, Teresa dismissed this possibility.Years later, now a couple living together, Rusty finds in his archives a photograph of Teresa on a beach walk dated 1993 many years prior to their first meeting in 2005. After 11 yrs, we feel our relationship has matured and remains fresh, interesting, and loving. People, strangers often stop us to say what a perfect couple we make. Some things are pre-ordained and God has a plan and the Internet at his disposal.
Teresa and I met on a Match.com date in the middle of a cold, winter … January 23, 2005. I thought I knew the house that I was picking her up from, but was wrong and got lost prior to our date. When we finally connected and she grabbed my arm in a European way, heading toward the car, I was smitten. After a lovely evening and us going our separate ways, I was unable to sleep and sent her an e-mail which made quite an impression on her. It said, “It is 3am, you have touched my heart.”
After seeing each other for a while, I seemed to remember that I had seen Teresa walking on the beach multiple times in the past. I remember this because of a small leather pouch that she wore. I often said to her, “I’ll bet I have a picture of you from a long time ago.” Sure enough, in my catalog, I had an artsy picture of Teresa and two girlfriends walking along the beach. The picture was taken from the rear and was an artistic picture, as far as I was concerned. (She thought that I was stalking her.) Many people from our area of South Jersey have experienced the Shore through decades and generations, and I was certainly one of those people. It really surprised me that I was able to find a woman who grew up in Sicily that had almost the same experience as I did on our South Jersey beaches, even though she started in her 20’s. People frequently comment on how good of a couple we are and we do get pleasure and have an appreciation of those comments since we feel that ourselves. One of the things that I appreciate is Teresa knows me better than anybody has ever known me. We have been together now for 11-and-a-half years and we are still drawn to one another, and the relationship still feels fresh. Thank you.
