“but Zach bent the rules to play her in game after game (in which she continued to lose) just to spend more time with her.”
In March of 2010 a romance began, of all places, at a Rutgers Lacrosse party. Zach, having an instant crush, challenged Zara to a game of beer pong. Zara lost to Zach terribly, which normally would suspend her from playing the next round, but Zach bent the rules to play her in game after game (in which she continued to lose) just to spend more time with her. The pair bonded over learning that Zach’s family’s beach house in Ventnor was just a ten-minute drive from Zara’s parent’s house. The two had been spending summers mere blocks away from each other on the beach without ever knowingly crossing paths. They quickly spent all of their time together going to football games: for Zach to watch the football, and for Zara to use her meal swipe on stadium food. Zara also loved going to support Zach at his lacrosse games, and Zach would come to watch Zara in her orchestra concerts. They frequented Olde Queens for two dollar Rolling Rock on draft, and in the morning would get the ever famous popcorn buffalo chicken crisps from Hansel & Griddle, with Vida, their mutual bestie, and Zara’s sister Leila (Zach’s treat if they were lucky).
An early highlight of their relationship was when Zach came to celebrate his first Christmas with Zara’s family. They ended up getting snowed in which extended the visit longer than anticipated, and Zach got to know his future family-in=laws a lot better than expected. When he tried to get a reprieve by going to the gym, he dropped and lost his keys in two feet of snow, which meant more time for wassailing, puzzles, and general non-stop holiday merriment.
Almost eight years later, you have an inseparable pair who support each other through all life’s trials and tribulations. They live in the cool little town of Red Bank, New Jersey with their rescue dog Cali (who has her own neurosurgeon), and rescue cat Wolfy. They love taking Cali for walks, drinking craft beers at Carton Brewery, and taking their Yeti in the Jeep with the roof down to the beach (Jeep wave!).
